The Beginning:
Long, long ago, before the time of man, fickle gods created a world that spun
in space like a shimmering crystal. It's very make up was that of a spectacular
gem on the inside, which could be viewed sparkling in the depths of it's endless
seas and through the bottom of the topsoil of it's lands. Created out of boredom,
they tossed out some random life, created a few land masses, and only after
sating their appetite for world creation, moved on to other endeavors.
Over time, the dominant species of one of the land masses became the wolves.
Survivors of nearly anything, with their ability to adapt to many different
environments on this haphazardly created land; they took over and reduced the
other intelligent species to distant history. The only other species alive
besides the carnivorous wolves became their food; the hooved ones, small tree
and hill dwellers, and small flighted ones that were able to get out of reach
of the wolves.
It was then, after the land had become a stable paradise of wolves that a
sorcerer came. Calling from the far reaches of another world, his experimentations
with plane shifting led him here, and quite stranded him in the middle of this
canine nirvana. However, he was intelligent, and had the powers of his sorcery
to keep himself safe. Over time, as he observed the wolves, he realized that
there seemed to be four basic 'packs' that stayed together; those that lived
in the barren desert in caves underground, those that dwelled deep within the
tangled forest, those that gathered around the large natural lake in the northern
portion of the land, and those that dwelled within the high peaks of the mountain
ranges.
Finding this a strange twist on things, he decided to use that to his advantage.
After all, he was stranded here anyhow, and figured he may as well amuse himself
while being so. Using his power over the elements, he decided to experiment with the land's inhabitants. Within each of the lands that these wolves lived, he chose a 'focus'
to be used as a transmitter of a particular elemental magic. A fissure of smoldering underground magma that bled gas into the cave systems
for the wolves of the desert, the very bottom of the deep lake that the lake wolves lived about, an ancient rock deep within the forest of the forest
dwelling wolves, and a whistling rock formation for the wolves selected to be of the air in the mountain ranges. It was to be an experiment with the elements
and their transference to living beings through these mediums he had chosen, as each pack dwelled within and around the aura of his chosenly imbued 'focus'. There was only one explosion of these magics, as he'd attempted to create another area, a surge of wild magic had sent it, and the wolves that lived there, away from the island into the nothing. This, he simply discounted as a necessary failure.
His plan seemed to work; each pack slowly bred into the different elemental
traits he had imbued, and over five long years, it seemed that the newer generations
were slowly becoming more and more elemental. The wolves of the forest became
quicker-moving and gained the ability to camouflage themselves in most any
natural setting. The desert dwellers seemed to gain the ability to see in darkness,
their eyes flaring up like a dying ember and when they walked it seemed their
paws were aflame. Other traits were seen as well, such as the ability of the
wolves that lived near water to seemingly 'push' the water with a thought,
enabling them to seemingly catch fish by making the very water expel them!
However, there had been a snag in his plan; over the years, he had slowly
been losing track of the air-imbued wolves. It seemed that every time he went
to view their pack, it was dwindling and seeing that he had not viewed any
of them growing physical wings, he thought they could not have simply flown off.
After searching for long months and doing numerous other studies, he had realized
that perhaps the air element had made them unstable and something catastrophic
had happened. Returning to his home one evening, in the middle of this land,
he fell asleep to tumbling thoughts in his mind about where they had gone and
how they had managed to disappear. This would be the last thought he would
have, as the air-imbued wolves had discovered something very interesting, and
that evening, two males snuck invisibly into his dwelling and tore him to shreds,
leaving naught but scraps of clothing.
Current Status:
It has now been over 50 years since
that occurence. Few wolves, and only those that have spoken with the Spiorad, know anything about their original creation, as that history has slipped from their current minds. There are only legends
now that tell of their coming to this land, and they vary depending on the
pack. The four elements from the origin have even been expanded upon and continue to evolve. For reference, the year is marked with an "AE", meaning "after elemental".
The Map:
Paragon is approximately 225,000 sq mi. At it's widest point, it is approximately 500 miles. Wolf travel speeds are listed on the wolves page of the site.
Pack Territory Sizes:
~ Emerald Forest: approximately 100 mi at it's widest point (West - East)
~ Pearly Cliffs: approximately 50 mi at it's widest point (West-East)
~ Quartz Peaks: approximately 150 mi at it's widest point (West-East)
~ Ruby Desert: approximately 75 mi at it's widest point (West-East)
~ Amethyst Ridge: approximately 125 mi at it's widest point (West-East)
~ Carnelian Isle: approximately 50 mi at it's widest points (circular)
Seasons:
The seasons of Paragon fall in a generally even, every three months rotation
based on the equinoxes and solstices. In our out of character time, they fall on specific days of the calendar; in
the wolves' lives, they simply happen as a natural change of the world around
them. Your wolves do NOT have calendars, thus they do not refer to the seasons
as months, rather they speak of the season itself and then whether it is "Beginning", "Middle" or "End" of the season.
Dorcha (Winter) is a time of colder temperatures as well as darker, shorter days with possibilities of snow and ice. (ooc December 22nd - March 20th)
Nua (Spring) is a time where plants bloom and there are warmer temperatures with perhaps some rain from time to time. (ooc March 21st - June 20th)
Lasair (Summer) is the warmest season with the longest days, where muggy conditions and high temperatures are likely. (ooc June 21st - September 22nd)
Fuacht (Fall) is a cooling season where plantlife dies off, there are brisk winds and the temperatures drop as the days shorten (ooc September 23rd - December 21st)
The seasons do not affect all of the areas of Paragon equally. The territories claimed by the particular elements are affected differently as the elemental foci of the lands tends to change certain things accordingly. Keep in mind, however, that an elemental wolf is always comfortable in his or her own element's territory! Below is a list of the elemental territories of Paragon and any differing effects that the seasons have on them:
 | Amethyst Ridge | Carnelian Isle | Emerald Forest | Pearly Cliffs | Quartz Peaks | Ruby Desert |
| Dorcha | Temperatures here are twice as cold and bitter as anywhere else in the lands. Only the Reioghan can comfortably exist here for any length of time without experiencing frostbite or near death. | Normal | Temperatures drop, however snow does not reach the ground in most places because of the thick canopies. | There is still the biting wind, and the cliffs become more icy rather than snowcovered. | Normal | Temperatures drop but do not get to freezing, although snow may fall, it will melt quickly. |
| Nua | Temperatures here are now similar to those of any other territory during a normal Dorcha. | Theres more rainfall here, due to the already present condensation in the air. | Normal | The cliffs stay cooler, not really warming up much, and growth of plantlife is scarce. | There is much rain during the springtime here. | The desert will stay warmer, not much growth of plantlife. |
| Lasair | Temperatures here are now similar to those of any other territory during a normal Dorcha. | It will become quite muggy here, as the air is already very humid with mist. | It stays cooler because of the shielding effect of the canopy, summer is warmer than spring but not by much. | Normal | Normal | Temperatures rise more than other territories, making this area quite unfriendly to any but the Tineans. |
| Fuacht | It begins to get more bitterly cold, the winds are now freezing almost to the bone of any wolf not a Reioghan. | Normal | Some of the outer trees will brown but the core of the canopy stays green all year round | A biting wind rises up from the sea, making this area nearly uninhabitable to those that are not of the Anord. | Very windy, otherwise normal. | Normal |
